While at Coastal Carolina University, he was named to the Presidents List and awarded the Palmetto Fellows Scholarship, as well as the Presidential Scholarship. Lillian Shoji is a theatre arts major with a minor in languages and intercultural studies from Woodstock, Ga. Nia Smalls, is a political science major with a concentration in domestic politics from Conway, S.C. She also minors in criminology. Following graduation, scholarship recipients must teach in a state public school for a minimum of three years. She is the recipient of both the Coastal Scholar Award and University Scholar Award. While at Coastal Carolina University, Cortese has been named to the Presidents List and served as the founder and president of Molecular Biology Club. Bennetts honors thesis is titled Lattice Paths in Diagonals and Dimensions, which was presented to a body of mathematicians.
